Banda Neira: History and Maritime Impressive
Visits to the Moluccas not complete it if not taking the time to rush to visit one of the fascinating islands in the Banda Islands of Banda Neira. The islands in the eastern part of Indonesia is known to create awe-inspiring beauty store visitors.
There are many interesting things and places that you can find in the island of Banda Neira. Banda Neira Island or better known as Bandanaira located on the island of Neira and a city in the Banda Islands which serves as the administrative center of the District Banda, Central Maluku district, Maluku Province.
Banda Neira has the feel of an old city which used to be the center of merchants. The merchants buying and selling of nutmeg and mace which was then the most sought-after commodity in the Banda Islands and became the source of the spices until the mid 19th century. Because spices are also many local residents massacre in Banda Neira carried by the VOC at the time. In fact, they also carry some of the residents of Banda Neira to Batavia to serve as slaves.

Mini Neira palace became the only large and beautiful building of that time in this region. Next surrounding many large houses built as the residence of senior Europeans who came to this island. Buildings like masion-mansion has a distinctive European architecture.
To survive the enemy attack, in 161, General Piether Both VOC who was assigned to monopolize trade in Banda Neira built Fort Belgica as a defense. Not far away are Fort Nassau. Unlike the Belgicia Fortress, the fortress was first built by the Portuguese in 1529.
Not only traces Banda Neira amazing history, its water storing wealth of marine life fascinating. The point of diving in the waters of Banda Neira is a paradise for those fond of diving activities. A total of 22 dive sites in the waters of Banda Neira, among which are: the Western Cape Banana Island, Selamo Village (Banda Besar Island), Cape Burang (Banda Besar Island), Stone Vessel, Mandarin City (Jetty Reef) and White Sands (Island Lighthouse Neira).
Besides diving you can also snorkel to enjoy the beautiful coral reef with various shapes. There are approximately 350 species of marine life including fish, shellfish ancient, sea grass, mollusk, octopus, shrimp, crabs, turtles, and coral reefs.
