October 4th 2004 First Presidential Election In Indonesia

The general election for President and Vice President of Indonesia in 2004 was held to choose a pair of President and Vice President of Indonesia from 2004 to 2009. The general election was the first time held in Indonesia. A general election was held for 2 rounds, and won by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla.

The pair of candidates for president and vice president nominated by a political party or coalition of political parties participating in the election. To be able to propose, political party or coalition of political parties must obtain at least 5% of the vote nationwide vote or 3% of seats in the House of Representatives. The pair of candidates for president and vice president get more than 50% of the votes in the general election with at least 20% of the vote in every province in more than 50% the number of provinces in Indonesia, was inducted into the president and vice president. If no pair of candidates for president and vice president-elect, two candidates who obtain the most votes in the first and second elections directly elected by the people and couples who obtain the majority of the people sworn in as president and vice president.

Based on the results of the election, the candidate pair Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Jusuf Kalla Muhammad designated as President and Vice President of Indonesia was elected. His inauguration was held on October 20, 2004 in the Plenary Session of the People's Consultative Assembly, which was also attended by a number of leaders of friendly countries, namely: Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Malaysia Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of East Timor Mari Alkatiri, and the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah, and 5 other countries messengers. Former President Megawati Sukarnoputri did not attend the inauguration ceremony. In the evening the same day, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced a new cabinet members, namely the United Indonesia Cabinet.
